I'll have a table at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (May 5 and 6) for the first time this year. An amazing and inspiring event, the folks at TCAF do an incredible job putting this together every year.
I'll have, along with prints, a 32 page book of new material I haven't posted called 13 CURSES. Its a little early but if you are interested in a copy, send me a email anytime before the convention tho the book won't be ready before then. I'll post more about it and a image or two closer to the convention but here is one of the cover sketches below.

Carousel 28 and 29

Carousel 28, on the stands now, contains 3 pages of The Happy Undertaker from 2010.
Issue 29 coming out in Spring contains one Happy Undertaker strip. The strip opposite the cover appears in the opposite issue. There is a link to Carousel on my side bar, a lovingly put together art, poetry, interview magazine thats worth checking out. This issue also begins 4 Panel, 10 artists exploring 4 panel sequences but you can check out a table of contents on the link. On the Carousel website, clicking the 12th image on left side takes you to info on issue 28.

Another break in House of Bats Mysterie this time to post a earlier 2 page that I finally finished (at least enough to post) the last couple of panels of. This one came about as I had done the bottom panel of page one as single illustration for a charity auction for the Shuster awards over 5 years ago and then re- worked it into a The Happy Undertaker.

Thanks to everyone at Fan Expo and everyone who stopped by my table to talk or buy stuff. It was a groovy time. I was fortunate to be beside the brilliant Junko Mizuno who is not only a great artist but a super cool person and had a great time talking to her about Japanese surf bands and Rockin Jelly Bean amongst other things. Illustrator Sarah Richard and writers Ian and Mike from Freelance Blues were great neighbours to have at the con too.

For Fan Expo I made a mini comic of Episode 16. I have a few of these left. They come in a hand drawn envelope and are limited to 50. Email me if you are interested for details about prices, with and without postcards and shipping cost. I'll finally catch up on my print mail outs next week. Thanks for your patience.

A delay this week as I took The Happy Undertaker out into the world for the first time at this weeks two day Toronto ComiCON Fan Appreciation Event. I had a great time and I would like to thank everyone who stopped by the table to check it out for the first time, folks who offered words of support, bought stuff and asked when the book would be coming out. Everyone who stopped by was super cool to talk too and I appreciate it. Thanks to Kevin and the rest for putting on a great convention. I'll be at the 4 day Fan Expo /Festival of Fear August 25-28.
I"d also like to thank the pleasant, bearded chap in the photo who watched the table so I could get a sandwich and buy comics.

I will be a guest at the Toronto ComiCON – Fan Appreciation Event
April 9-10 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and I'll have a couple of prints for sale. The first is The Happy Undertaker Episode 21 and is 13 by 19 and is 40 dollars.
The second is Roots and is 10 by 13 and is 35 dollars. Both prints are in a edition of 50 signed and numbered.

I'm also selling a set of 4 postcards for 3 dollars till they run out.

A rider from beyond..

I've only seen one "ghost" in my life many years ago , at least I like to think it was a real ghost.
This particular phantom gets a mention in Ontario ghost books and I don't remember his real name so I'll call him The Ghost of Lake Skugog.
Above is my doodle from few years ago a notebook planning on doing a cleaner version and the inspiration for the latest Happy Undertaker.
Friends who lived close to Lake Skugog first told me about the ghost and how teenagers from the surrounding towns would go up to the old farm road and park their cars and watch the farmers field late at night where the incident happened hoping for a glimpse of the ghost.
The story goes that a motorcyclist had made a habit of crossing the field of a farmers , late at night, after some rendezvous. The farmer, to deter the rider, built a fence along the edge of his property and the road. The rider again crossed the field at night, only this time he collided with the fence. The motorcycle tumbled and rolled and the unfortunate rider was thrown to his death.
My friends had gone on midnight vigils before to see the apparition but had never seen him.
One late night we decided to drive up north to the farmers field. We parked on a dirt road that faced the field, fence and road that ran beside the property. It was pitch black when we turned off the car headlights except the light from the sky and we sat and laughed quietly and tried to spook each other.
An hour and half had passed when suddenly a single, small light appeared on the horizon of the field and headed toward us. We jumped and choked back yells and our eyes popped as we watched the lone light weave through the field, getting larger till it finally hit the fence, where the light jerked and bounced and fell downward toward the road and extinguished and a tiny red tail light flashed.
We were all pretty excited and freaked out and waited around for another hour hoping to see it again. Eventually we pulled out and headed home very happy with our small encounter with the supernatural. Its been explained or unexplained as lights bouncing off various things to give that impression but heck,thats no fun anyway, better a ghost I say.
In The Happy Undertaker the ghost decides to continue on his way.

Evening Ghouls, the coloring is not finished and a few small changes have been made but this episode will be appearing in black and white in Sequential Pulp

Putrescent Pat Hamou from Montreal, Quebec who sends us his heartwarming rendition of The Happy Undertaker and asks
when a new installment is going to arrive? If it doesn't happen soon, he howls, he might have to release the bats in his belfry!

The Ghoulyard has been overun these days and it seems the moment a scroll has been clawed in some skeletons shabby frock coat needs mending and so it goes.
